Notices 26th April

Dear Friends,

On this third Sunday of Easter we hear Luke’s account of the two disciples making their way to Emmaus and their meeting with a stranger.  In this encounter we see the disciples move from despair to hope as they realise this is no stranger, but the risen Lord.  Luke describes how Jesus reveals himself through scripture: “…beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures”; in the sacraments, as he “…took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them”; through the Holy Spirit “…were not our hearts burning within us”.

How and when did you first recognise Jesus…as more than someone you know about…as your Lord?  What was your response? In what ways did your life change? Or maybe you have yet to recognise him?

And I wonder, how do we make Jesus known to others…especially in these current times?  Through our actions of care and compassion? In our deep listening and gestures of kindness? By sharing words of hope?

A prayer by Judith Dimond:

Companion Jesus, walk with me when I journey

And stay with me when I come to rest.

May my heart burn within me when we meet

And then may I be ready to take the next step

Towards your will for me.

Amen.
