“The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, ‘Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.’ For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves” (Mark 6:30-32).
What else have we given up for Lent, apart from chocolate, cake, alcohol…? Perhaps we could fast from what seems to be 24/7 busyness, and accept God’s gift of Sabbath rest (whenever that may be for you), and in doing so live in a way which gives life to others, which speaks of justice for the whole creation. Apart from anything else, by taking proper rest we feel better, and that means we can only make others feel better too.
